Lithuania Development Marketplace 2004

The World Bank Lithuania Office, in co-operation with UNDP, UNDP/GEF SGP and BAPP, announce the Lithuania Development Marketplace (LDM) grants program for Lithuanian non-profit making organizations.

Lithuania Development Marketplace is a forum of ideas that aim to change people’s lives for the better. The mission is to create a marketplace of ideas, talent, and resources that address development challenges and to provide a forum for knowledge sharing. The main objective of the program is to bring together social innovators to compete for funding and to share knowledge and experiences in seeking innovative approaches to fighting poverty and work with partners to promote scaling up and replication of successful projects as well as encourage new partnerships across civil society, governments, the private sector, and official agencies.
The activities submitted for funding should address at least one of the following three themes:

Human Development – education, health, social sector.
Regional Development – addressing regional disparities, sustainable development, environment.
Knowledge Economy – use of knowledge for development, addressing connectivity gap, ICT for communities.

Geographical area: Lithuania

Maximum project duration: 12 months

The World Bank and its partners will provide about US$200,000 in grants as awards to the winners. Generally, awards will vary in size and will be determined by the needs of the proposals that are selected. The average award size is US$15,000.

The competition will be held in the following stages:
  • April 5, 2004 – proposal outline submission
  • April 30, 2004 – announcement of finalists
  • May 7, 2004 – information session for finalists
  • May 20, 2004 – complete project proposals submission
  • June 10-11, 2004 – Knowledge Forum and & Development Marketplace

In addition to the LDM grant competition, the event will include a Knowledge Forum in which various leaders in the development community will share their experiences and approaches to promoting human development and Knowledge Economy, as well as addressing regional disparities.
